Men’s Volleyball Picked to Finish Seventh in UVC Preseason Poll

Rochester, NY -- The Elmira College Men's Volleyball team has been chosen by the coaches of the United Volleyball Conference to finish seventh in the league in the 2013 season. Elmira, ranked 15th nationally, finished last season 22-18 overall and 6-5 in the incredibly tough UVC. The Purple and Gold fell in a tight five-set match in the Quarterfinal round of the UVC Tournament to Medaille.

In arguably the deepest Division III conference in the country, with six teams ranked in the preseason top 15, the Soaring Eagles received 62 points, good for seventh place in the grueling UVC.

Defending UVC Champions, Nazareth College, received three first place votes and finished just six points behind Stevens for the top spot. Third on the list is New York University with one coach voting the Violets to claim the title at the end of the season and 103 total points.

Medaille College, Vassar College and SUNY New Paltz take the four through six slots in the poll. Medaille and Vassar are both ranked in the AVCA Preseason Top 15, while New Paltz is receiving votes on the list.

D'Youville College, Penn State-Behrend, Bard College, Hilbert College and SUNY IT round out the remaining 12-team conference in that order of placement.

New Paltz and Medaille will host the two UVC Crossovers this season on February 9-10 and March 9-10, where a majority of the conference standing will be determined. Each team will play four single conference matches throughout the season to make up the remaining UVC schedule.
