Elmira, NY – Four players scored in double figures as the Men's Basketball team downed visiting Hartwick, 88-62, Friday evening in Speidel Gymnasium. The win improves the Soaring Eagles to 5-13 overall and 2-5 in Empire 8 play, while the loss drops the Hawks to 11-7 and 3-4.
The 88 points scored in tonight's contest mark the most in a single game in EC history in the last 10 years. The last time Elmira scored more than 88 points was when it occurred twice during the 2002-03 season. On December 16, 2002 the Soaring Eagles scored 97 points in a 97-85 win against Lycoming College, and just over a month later on January 25, 2003 EC poured in 96 points in a 96-79 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology.
Chris Cassidy '14 finished with game-highs of 21 points and 17 rebounds in 30 minutes, while shooting 9-for-18 from the field.
Derrick Vogel '14 proved to be a tremendous floor general scoring 18 points, dishing out a game-high eight assists, while committing just one turnover and collecting six rebounds.

Dutcher '14 tallied 13 points.
With 12:38 remaining in the opening half Hartwick led 13-12. Over the next 12 minutes EC used a 27-8 spurt to take a 40-20 lead. 'Wick closed the half on a 4-0 run but Elmira went into intermission with a commanding, 40-24 lead.
The second half proved to be much of the same as the Purple and Gold dominated action throughout. Hartwick got within 15 at 49-34 with 14:22 remaining. However, EC responded to every Hawk challenge, extending the lead to as many as 29 at 80-51 with 3:07 left on the clock.
Jared Suderley and Anthony Keane paced Hartwick with 12 and 10 points, respectively. The Hawks shot 39 percent from the field, while EC hit on 51 percent of its shot attempts and buried 42 percent of shots from long distance. Elmira also held a huge 39-24 edge on the glass and 18-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
Dutcher shot 6-for-7 from the field,
Keys nailed three of his seven attempts from downtown and all six of his attempts from the line. Meanwhile,
Matt Newell '14 provided a huge lift off the bench hitting two of his four trey attempts.
The Men's Basketball team returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Stevens Institute of Technology starting at 4:00 p.m.
