Elmira, NY -- McKenna Light '14 of the field hockey team and
Jordan Dougherty '16 of the men's soccer team have been named the EC Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 13th, 2013.
Light was an offensive machine as she led the Soaring Eagles to two wins this week. She tallied one goal and one assist during a 6-0 rout of Wells College on Wednesday before scoring the game-winning goal against Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday. The captain's overtime goal completed the comeback and gave EC its first ever win over the Presidents in the eight years of the matchup.
Light's performance this season has also solidified her spot as one of the best field hockey players to ever wear the purple and gold. Her game-winner gave her five goals in 2013 and elevated her to third all-time in points (47) and third all-time in goals (19). She also currently stands in fifth place all-time in assists (9).
The field hockey team will look to extend their winning streak to three on Tuesday, October 15th when they host Neumann University at the Murray Athletic Center. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
Dougherty had a stellar 2013 debut against Ithaca College Saturday afternoon. Making his first start in over a calendar year (October 7, 2012 vs. The Sage Colleges), Dougherty made eight saves as he preserved a 1-0 shutout victory against the Bombers. The shutout snapped EC's four-game losing streak and was the first clean sheet of the keeper's young career.
The men's soccer team will look to ride this momentum into their next game when they host SUNY Canton on Wednesday, October 16th in a non-conference matchup. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
