Box Score Houghton, NY -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team traveled to Houghton College and came away with their first win of the season, defeating the Highlanders by a convincing 23-2 score. Brothers,
Brady Richards '14 and
Myles Richards '17 combined for 11 goals and three assists, both tying their career-highs for goals scored in a game with six and five, respectively.
There were 10 other Soaring Eagles who got into the scoring column with
Dustin Gatt'14 and
Anthony LaRusso'17 the only other multi-goal scorers at two apiece.
Christian Archambeault'14 and newcomer
Griffin Foley each tallied one goal and a game-high five assists while
Jackson Correia'14 returned from his one-game absence to record one goal and three assists.
EC wasted little time scoring the game's first goal of the game as Gatt found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Foley. Gatt's goal would preface a string of six consecutive goals scored by the Richards brothers, four by Brady and two by Myles. Houghton finally got on the scoreboard with 1:14 remaining in the opening quarter, making it a 7-1 game, but
Myles Richards would net his third goal of the quarter to give EC an 8-1 lead after one quarter of play.
There were not as many scoring opportunities in the second quarter, but Elmira continued to build their lead by outscoring the Highlanders 5-1 in the second stanza.
Skyler Pradelski '15 and
John Bigelow '16 each found the back of the net for the first time in their careers in the second quarter as EC took a 13-2 lead into halftime.
The Purple and Gold controlled the second half of play, holding Houghton scoreless for the final 30 minutes of regulation. Additionally, the Soaring Eagles scored 10 second-half goals, each by a different Elmira player, to bring the game to the 23-2 final score.
All four EC goaltenders saw time in net today, with newcomer
Wyatt Katsos'17 picking up the win after giving up one goal in one quarter of play.
Mike Knowlton'14 played the second quarter, making two saves while relinquishing Houghton's second goal of the game and
Kyle Cooke '17 and
Cameron Prior '17 combined to shutout the Highlanders in the second half.
The Soaring Eagles will look to continue their winning ways on Saturday, April 5th when EC hosts Alfred University in an Empire 8 matchup. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. on Elmira College's Campus Field.
