Men's Lacrosse Partners with HEADstrong to Raise Money For Cancer

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team has partnered with the HEADstrong Foundation to raise money to support those who have been affected by cancer through HEADstrong's Lacrosse Mustache Madness campaign.

HEADstrong was established by former Hofstra University men's lacrosse player Nicholas Colleluori, who was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B-Cell non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma  following his freshman season, with the goal of raising awareness and funds to support cancer victims and their families. Although Colleluori passed in 2006, his vision has grown into a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that has raised over $7 million and has assisted over 12,000 patients since 2007.

Lacrosse Mustache Madness was conceptualized by University of Virginia men's lacrosse player Ken Clausen as a way to raise funds and pay tribute to Colleluori. Now in its seventh year, Lacrosse Mustache Madness has raised over $500,000, including a record $127,000 last year alone. Teams from across the nation are tasked with growing the furriest Fu Manchu to help raise awareness while collecting donations. Prizes are awarded for teams and individuals who meet fundraising goals.

Through the first week of the nation-wide competition, Elmira leads all of the participating college programs with over $3,400 raised. Donations will be collected until Monday, November 30th, and the Soaring Eagles need your help to exceed their $5,000 goal.

The Elmira College community is encouraged to join the Soaring Eagles men's lacrosse team in the fight against cancer. For more information on the HEADstrong Foundation and Lacrosse Mustache Madness, and to donate to the men's lacrosse team, visit the Elmira College donation page here.
