Empire 8 Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. --
Saturday's career performance from Amanda Banner '17 earned the Elmira College fourth-year goalkeeper the Empire 8 Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

Originally from Mullica Township, New Jersey, Banner picked up the first weekly honor of her career by making a single-game high 13 saves in a grueling 1-0 double overtime defeat against Houghton College at Campus Field on October 15th. The senior netminder made four saves within the first 16 minutes of regulation to extinguish an early Highlander run. One of her biggest stops of the afternoon came in the second half, when she came up with a clutch save on a Houghton penalty kick in the in the 62nd minute. Banner also registered one save in each overtime period.

With 95 saves on the year, Banner has moved into eighth-place all-time in program history with 274 saves as a Soaring Eagle. Following Saturday's career outing, she sits second among E8 leaders in saves per game with an average of 7.92.

Banner and the rest of the Soaring Eagles return to action, when Elmira travels to nearby Ithaca, New York, to face the Bombers of Ithaca College on Tuesday, October 18th, at 3:30 p.m.
