Jerolman, Lahey Crowned EC Athletes of the Week

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Classmates Maddy Jerolman '19 and Meg Lahey '19 of the nationally-ranked women's ice hockey team have been named the Elmira College Athletes of the Week after leading the Soaring Eagles to a sweep of Chatham University over the weekend.

The Class of 2019 duo combined for eight points, as each skater registered four points in the two-game ECAC West series. Jerolman (3g, 1a) and Lahey (2g, 2a) fueled a red-hot Elmira offense that tallied 15 goals against the Cougars, resulting in lopsided 7-1 and 8-0 victories.

Jerolman, a feisty 5-foot 3-inch forward, finished with two points in each contest over the weekend to create a three-game multi-point streak, which began on November 5th in the win over Neumann.

In the series opener, Jerolman netted the first goal of her sophomore campaign on the power play. She slapped a cross-ice pass from Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 inside the near post to give EC a 3-0 advantage eight-and-a-half minutes into the first period. Jerolman also picked up an assist on a tally from Maddie Evangelous '19 late in the second period.

A native of Hamden, Connecticut, Jerolman then scored back-to-back goals within a span of 43 seconds in the third period of Saturday's shutout victory. Her first score of the afternoon came on the power play as well, as she beat Chatham goalie Tara Riley stick-side with a wrister from the slot. Her third goal of the weekend came less than a minute later off of a one-timer from the left-wing side.

The two-goal performance marked the first multi-goal outing of Jerolman's young career. On the season, she sits second on the team with six points. Among ECAC West scorers, she is tied for third in both power-play points (4) and power-play goals (2).

Lahey opened scoring for the Soaring Eagles on Friday by netting the first goal of the game, as she wristed the puck into the upper corner from the right faceoff circle. The Latham, New York, native earned a pair of assists on the eventual game-winner, scored by Kristin Chivers '19 less than two minutes later, and a third-period score from Meghan Fonfara '18, both of which came on the power play.

The second-year defender scored her second goal of the season the following afternoon late in the first period. She received a feed from Lippiatt Durnell in the slot and one-timed it into the upper left corner to give EC a 2-0 advantage.

Lahey's three points on Friday were not only a single-game career high for the sophomore, but her goal and two assists matched the entire scoring output from her rookie campaign. With a four-point weekend, she has already established a new single-season personal record only four games into the 2016-17 campaign.

The No. 3 nationally-ranked Soaring Eagles conclude a six-game stretch of ECAC West contests with a two-game set on the road against Buffalo State on Friday, November 18th, and Saturday, November 19th. Friday's series opener is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. at the Buffalo State Ice Arena.
