ELMIRA, N.Y. -- With the 2016-17 Elmira College basketball seasons fast approaching, the men's and women's basketball teams will be hosting their annual Hoops Hysteria event, sponsored by the Student Association Finance Board, on Wednesday, November 9th, at 9:15 p.m. The doors open at the Speidel Gymnasium at 9:00 p.m. The first 400 fans in attendance will be given a free Hoops Hysteria t-shirt and each fan will be given five free raffle tickets for a number of prizes that will be given out throughout the evening.

Hoops Hysteria will give fans their first glimpse of the men's and women's basketball teams. The men will be doing a 5-7 minute dunking exhibition, before combining with the women's team for the Class Shootout Challenge. There will also be an Athletics Team Shootout and a RA Shootout. For the Athletics Team Shootout, a representative from each athletic team will participate to win a team prize. As for the RA Shootout, a resident assistant from each building will participate to win a prize for the building. The EC Dance Line and the Elmira College Competition Cheerleading Team will also be showcased at Hoops Hysteria, with night being capped off by a performance from the EC cheerleaders.   

For the second year in a row Hoops Hysteria will involve a canned food drive that both teams will be hosting. Students are encouraged to bring canned goods to Wednesday's event, and in return for every can donated, the student will receive three additional raffle tickets. A maximum of 10 extra tickets will be distributed in return for three cans, however, fans are encouraged to bring more than three. All goods will be donated to a local food bank.
