ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Henry Cuffee '19 of the men's basketball team and Emily Green '18 of the women's basketball team been awarded the Elmira College Athlete of the Week Awards for the week ending December 4th.

Cuffee's double-double outing on Sunday against St. Lawrence University nearly led the Soaring Eagles to an upset of the Saints on their own hardwood at Burkman Gymnasium. He finished second on the team with 15 points while hauling in a game-high 11 rebounds, as EC fell 87-78 in overtime.

The 6-foot 5-inch forward netted 11 of his points in the first half, as the Soaring Eagles stunned the home crowd and entered the halftime break with a 43-37 advantage. Within the first four minutes alone, he scored four points while recording an offensive rebound and a takeaway that both resulted in made 3-pointers for Elmira.

His two biggest points of the game came in the final second of regulation. With EC trailing by two, Alex Ischiropoulos '20 released a 3-pointer that was off target, but Cuffee was there to tip in the second-chance attempt at the buzzer to send the contest into overtime.

The double-double marked the second of the season and of his career for the sophomore from Bel Air, Maryland, who ranks second on the team with 11.5 points per game. His team-leading 7.7 rebounds per game are good enough for sixth-most among Empire 8 Conference leaders.

Cuffee will lead the Elmira men's basketball team to Washington, D.C., for a non-conference tilt against the Cardinals of the Catholic University of America on Saturday, December 17th, at 4:00 p.m.

Green's hot-hand was instrumental in guiding the Soaring Eagles to a 2-0 week, as she paced all players with 18.0 points per game in the non-league victories over Pennsylvania College of Technology and SUNY Cortland. Against the Wildcats she netted 15 points, a season high at the time, while tying her season best with seven rebounds, as the Purple and Gold put down the Wildcats in a decisive 65-23 win.

The Fredericksburg, Virginia, native then tallied a career-high 21 points, 14 of which came in the second half, as the Soaring Eagles snapped a 15-game losing streak to non-conference rival SUNY Cortland. She scored five consecutive points as part of a 7-0 EC run to start the third quarter, including one of her three 3-point field goals on the night. In the fourth quarter, she registered three-point plays on back-to-back possessions moments after the Red Dragons trimmed the lead down to one. After connecting on another trey, she converted all three tries from the charity stripe after being fouled on an attempted 3-pointer.

Not only has the junior guard led the team in scoring over the past week, but her three-game double-digit point streak coincides with Elmira's three-game win streak. In her EC career, the Soaring Eagles are 7-3 when she scores 10-plus points, illustrating just how impactful Green has been. In fact, dating back to the 2015-16 home finale, she has scored double digits in all four games of EC's four-game home win streak. On the season, she sits third on the team with 11.3 points per game.

Green and the Elmira women will look to continue their winning ways in 2017, as the Soaring Eagles cap off their four-game homestand and open Empire 8 Conference play against Hartwick College on Tuesday, January 3rd, at 6:00 p.m.
