Chicago, IL -- Thanks to a tremendous showing at the polls by Elmira fans,
Justin Henderson '16 of the Elmira College men's basketball team has moved on to the final round of selection for the 2016 GEICO Play of the Year.
Henderson garnered the most fan votes in the first week of voting. He beat out an impressive alley-oop dunk by Andy Orr of Lebanon Valley College, a game-winning off-balance jumper by Armin Omanovic of Lasell College and a game-winning deep three-pointer by Mount Ida College's Joey DeFillippi.
The next four weeks will determine Henderson's competition in the final round, as 16 more incredible college basketball plays will duke it out in weekly voting, with four more plays joining Henderson's in the final. The five weekly winners will compete in a final week-long competition to determine the GEICO Play of the Year. The winner will be announced during the GEICO Best of College Basketball special, which is set to air on March 27th at 12:00 p.m. EST on CBS.

The Staten Island, NY, native ranks fourth on the team this season at 9.9 points per game. He is second on the team and tied for sixth in the Empire 8 Conference with 57 made three-pointers on the season. Henderson currently sits at 120 made triples for his career, just eight short of tying David Nelson '10 for 10
th on the program's all-time list.
The men's basketball team returns to action on Tuesday, February 9
th, when EC plays its final home game of the season with a 6:00 p.m. tip against Houghton College.
