AVCA Poll
Lexington, KY -- Following a 2-1 week, the Elmira College men's volleyball team remained as the country's ninth-ranked team according to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) National Coaches Poll. The latest ranking release sets the stage for a pair of Top-10 matchups this weekend.
This week's poll looked fairly similar to the previous ranking period, as all 15 teams stayed above the cutoff line. There was some movement in the bottom third of the poll, which had little effect on EC holding onto its No. 9 ranking.
Elmira went 2-1 in the previous week's matches, with all three contests going to a fifth set. The Purple and Gold began the week with a 3-2 loss at Speidel Gymnasium to then-No. 8 Nazareth College, before bouncing back a few days later with wins over Medaille College and Cal Lutheran. There were two major highlights last week, including
Mike Ellison '16 becoming the third player in program history to register 1,000-career kills and
Erik Griffin '16 tying the college record for career kills (1,440).
The Soaring Eagles return to action tomorrow night, when the Elmira men host Keuka College in a 6:00 p.m. non-conference match. Elmira concludes its conference schedule on Saturday, March 26th, when the Purple and Gold take on top-ranked SUNY New Paltz and 10th-ranked Vassar College.
