Brian Depp ’16 Inks Pro Deal with Huntsville Havoc of SPHL

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Brian Depp '16 of the Elmira College men's ice hockey team is the next player in a long line of talented alums to continue his playing career in the professional ranks, as the former four-year standout recently signed a professional contract to play for the Huntsville Havoc of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL), located in Huntsville, Alabama.

"We are very proud of Brian moving on to the pro level," said Head Coach Aaron Saul '98. "Brian has worked extremely hard over his four years at Elmira. He had a great senior year and we will be following his pro career moving forward."

Depp joins the Havoc following the most successful season of his collegiate career in 2015-16. The two-year captain scored 12 goals and assisted on 12 others for a year-end total of 24 points, all of which were career highs for the Michigan native. His 24-point total finished second on this year's team and helped him garner ECAC West All-Conference Second-Team honors.

In his four years with the Purple and Gold, Depp appeared in 102 games and amassed 66 points on 32 goals and 34 helpers. He was a key component in Elmira's run to an ECAC West Tournament Championship in 2013-14, the program's conference-leading 10th tournament title in its storied history.

Depp should feel right at home at Huntsville, as he joins the 2014 ECAC West Tournament Most Outstanding Player and former teammate in Ryan deMelo '15. He will look to bolster a Huntsville team that finished the 2015-16 regular season with a 26-26-4 record, before being bounced in the opening round of the SPHL Playoffs.

The Havoc open the 2016-17 SPHL season on Friday, October 21st, when Huntsville travels to Illinois to face the SPHL Tournament Runner-Up Peoria Rivermen.
