Clarke Named Empire 8 Women's Golf Player of the Week

Empire 8 Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. --
Elmira College's Audrey Clarke '18 was tabbed the Empire 8 Conference Women's Golf Player of the Week for the week ending September 11th, as released by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

The honor marks the third time that Clarke has received weekly recognition from the Empire 8 in her EC career.

Clarke, a native of Churchville, New York, capped off her weekend at the Utica College Invitational with one of the best rounds in the history of the Elmira women's golf program on Sunday. Her four-over par 77 during second round of the tournament, held at the Yahnandasis Golf Club in New Hartford, New York, established a new single-round career low for the third-year Soaring Eagle. Her round of 18 holes on day two fell just two strokes shy of the all-time record of 75, set by Tory MacNeil '08 at the 2007 Williams Fall Classic, but it did equal MacNeil's program record for lowest score versus par at plus-four.

On Saturday, Clarke fired a first-round 84 to give her a two-day total of 161 (+15), good enough for seventh place out of the field of 46. That weekend total sits third all-time in the EC records books for a 36-hole tournament and is a four-stroke improvement over her previous best.

Clarke and the rest of the EC women will continue the fall portion of the 2016-17 schedule at the William Smith Invitational, hosted by the Herons at the Clifton Springs Country Club in Clifton Springs, New York. The opening round is scheduled for Saturday, September 17th, with an 11:00 a.m. tee time.
