Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- For the first time in her young collegiate career,
Tilila El Yazidi '20 of the Elmira College women's tennis team has been named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week.
The rookie netter had a fantastic week for the Soaring Eagles at the top of their singles and doubles lineups. El Yazidi went a perfect 6-0 in dual matches a week ago, including a 4-0 mark against Empire 8 opponents (Houghton & Utica).
She began the week with a hard-fought 8-5 doubles win over Houghton with partner
Megan Fitzgerald '18, before downing her opponent in singles, 6-3, 6-2. Two days later, the freshman talent dropped just two games against Utica with an 8-2 mark in doubles and a clean sweep in singles action, 6-0, 6-0.
The native of Morocco concluded the week's action with a pair of wins over visiting Fredonia on Sunday afternoon at the Murray Athletic Center. El Yazidi teamed up with Fitzgerald for an 8-0 win at first doubles, followed by a 6-3, 6-1 straight-set win in singles.
El Yazidi's collegiate career is off to a phenomenal start to say the least. She owns an unblemished 8-0 record in all matches and has yet to drop a set in singles action thus far.
Elmira will be hoping for much of the same effort from El Yazidi this week, as the Soaring Eagles prepare for a plethora of matches. EC welcomes E8 power Ithaca College to the Murray Athletic Center this Thursday, September 15th, for a 4:00 p.m. conference bout. The Purple and Gold conclude the week with a pair of non-league matches against Bard College and RIT on Saturday, September 17th.
