DANBURY, Conn. -- Following another standout weekend between the pipes, Sal Magliocco '17 of the Elmira College men's ice hockey team was awarded the ECAC West Conference Goaltender of the Week. With today's accolade, Magliocco becomes the first netminder this season to claim back-to-back weekly honors from the league office.
 
Magliocco amassed 73 saves in a 1-1-0 week for the Soaring Eagles. He began the week with a 35-save effort against Curry College, before turning away 38 shots in a 5-2 upset victory over No.13/14 nationally-ranked Salve Regina University on Saturday night.
 
The Roslyn, New York, native was solid in each of the three periods against the nationally-ranked Seahawks, especially in the final frame. Magliocco made 18 saves in the third period alone, a season high for the fourth-year netminder, en route to Elmira's first win over a nationally-ranked opponent of the 2016-17 season.
 
Magliocco's gutsy performance against the nationally-ranked Seahawks was just latest in a handful of consecutive quality starts by the senior leader. Since the New Year, he has posted a 2-1-1 record and totaled 148 saves for an impressive save percentage of .937 percent.
 
Elmira will be counting on Magliocco to continue his stellar play this Saturday, January 21st, when the Soaring Eagle square off with No. 9/10 nationally-ranked Hobart College in a neutral site non-conference matchup at the W.G. Allyn Ice Arena in Skaneateles, New York. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m.
