Cleary Named E8 Player of the Week Following Career Milestone

Empire 8 Conference Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Following a historic week for the Elmira College women's basketball team, the Empire 8 Conference crowned Danielle Cleary '18 the league's Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

In a three-game week, Cleary finished with an average of 15.0 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. More noteworthy, however, was her performance on Thursday, January 26th, in a non-conference contest against Wells College. In front of her friends and family in attendance at Speidel Gymnasium that night, the junior guard scored a season-high-tying 26 points and picked up her second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds to lead the Soaring Eagles to a 69-50 victory over the Express.

With back-to-back treys less than 30 seconds apart early in the fourth quarter, Cleary reached a milestone only previous achieved by five other players in program history, as she became the sixth member of Elmira's prestigious 1,000-point club. Following a 13-point outing in Saturday's bout with Hartwick College, her career point total sits at 1,018, sixth-most in program history and only 30 shy of becoming one of EC's top-five all-time leading scorers.

Cleary's name is also penciled in among Elmira's greatest in several other categories, including career points per game average, where she ranks fourth all-time at 15.2. She is also third in career free throw makes with 271 and sixth in 3-pointers with 109.

The Cleary-led Soaring Eagles will kick off a three-game homestand on Tuesday, January 31st, when Elmira hosts St. John Fisher College at Speidel Gymnasium. The conference rivalry is set to renew at 6:00 p.m.
