Women’s Soccer Hosts “Paint the Field Pink” Game on Saturday, October 14

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- With October serving as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Elmira College women's soccer team will be doing their part to raise awareness and funds to help support the fight against this deadly disease. On Saturday, October 14, the Elmira women will host their "Paint the Field Pink" game on Campus Field in a 12:00 p.m. conference match against Utica College.

The Soaring Eagles will don special pink uniforms (displayed in story photo) for the contest and will also have the lines on Campus Field painted pink for Saturday's contest. There will be a $2 admission fee for the match, but EC students that wear pink will be granted access to the contest for free. Elmira will also be conducting a 50/50 raffle, with all proceeds from the raffle, and admission charges, to be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

"This event means a great deal to me," said Head Coach Kaitlyn Mallernee. "I watched my grandmother battle her fight against breast cancer when I was in high school. Her very last day of treatment fell on the same day as my sectional game for soccer, and you better believe she was still supporting me, front and center, strong as ever. People all over can share stories similar to mine that have been impacted by cancer. The fact of the matter is there are too many women out there fighting this fight that we pray will have a winning outcome, which is why we are conducting this event, to share our support and raise money in order to help the cause and cure for breast cancer. We appreciate all the help we can get through your donation."

In addition to the fundraising and awareness efforts by the Elmira women's soccer team, an added bonus to this Saturday's contest will be that EC's nationally-ranked cheerleading team will be on-site to provide some halftime entertainment. During the 15-minute intermission, the EC cheerleaders will take to the field for a special performance for those in attendance, which will serve as the team's first on-campus performance of the 2017-18 academic year.

About the Susan G. Komen Foundation
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen® organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world's largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, we've invested more than $2.9 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. Our efforts helped reduce deaths from breast cancer by 38 percent between 1989-2014 and we won't stop until our promise is fulfilled.
