Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Following a record-setting performance on the mound against Rutgers University-Camden, Elmira College junior
Conor Bawiec '18 has been tabbed the Empire 8 Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Bawiec led the Soaring Eagles to a 2-1 victory over the Scarlet Raptors at the Armstrong Invitational in Fayetteville, North Carolina, with an outstanding complete-game effort. He scattered seven hits and one run across nine innings of work without issuing a walk. In addition, he fanned 10 opposing batsmen to set a new program single-game record.
After surrendering a run to the Scarlet Raptors in the second inning, Bawiec retired the side in order in the third, fifth, seventh, and ninth innings. Rutgers-Camden advanced runners to third base with two outs in both the fourth and sixth innings, but on both occasions, the Lebanon, Pennsylvania, native stranded the would-be tying runs with a strikeout to end the frame. The 6-foot-4-inch righty then sealed the one-run victory by striking out all three batters in the ninth.
Following a two-week break from action, Bawiec and the Soaring Eagles will travel to New Rochelle, New York, for a non-conference doubleheader against The City College of New York on Saturday, March 11th, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
