Tracey Crowned Empire 8 Men’s Tennis Player of the Week

Empire 8 Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. --
The Empire 8 Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week award is heading back to the Southern Tier for a second time this season, as Elmira College's Patrick Tracey '18 was named the league's award winner this afternoon.

Tracey, who joined EC's Theo Tran '20 as two of the E8's four Player of the Week recipients in 2017, was flawless in last week's action against the favorites to win the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC), Marywood University. The product of Bardonia, New York, teamed up with Tran for an 8-2 drubbing of their opponents at the top doubles spot, before rolling over the opposition in singles action at the third position by a 6-0, 6-0 final score. Tracey's straight-set win in singles pushed his career win total to 21 matches, a mark that is tied for fifth place in EC history.

With the wins over Marywood, Tracey improved his combined record this season to 8-5 with a 4-3 mark in singles and a 4-2 record in doubles. He has won four consecutive doubles matches heading into today's bout with Keystone College and has not tasted defeat on the singles court in three straight contests.

Not only has Tracey been picking up wins lately, he has been doing it in dominant fashion. During his three-match singles win streak, the junior dropped just one of 37 games played and has back-to-back shutout victories. In doubles, Tracey and Tran have throttled the opposition with a pair of 8-0 wins in their last three matches, winning 24-of-26 games played in that time.

Tracey, along with the rest of the Soaring Eagles, will look for their fourth straight win of the season this afternoon as they take on the Giants of Keystone College. Today's non-conference bout is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, New York.
