Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Empire 8 Conference has chosen Elmira College's
Cameron Prior '17 as the recipient of the Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
It is the second weekly award that Prior has received from the Empire 8 this season, as he also took home Goalie of the Week honors in recognition of his 19 saves in the 2017 season opener against Neumann University in February.
Over the last week, Prior recorded his two highest save totals of the season en route a combined 54 stops in games against The College at Brockport and Hartwick College. On the road against the Golden Eagles on April 5, the 6-foot-5-inch senior netminder racked up 23 saves, his first outing of the 2017 campaign with 20-or-more rejections.
He followed that up with one of his biggest performances of the year in EC's game against Empire 8 rival Hartwick on Saturday, April 8. Prior nearly reached a program record he set as a sophomore in 2015, finishing just seven shy of his all-time record a with a season-high 31 stops against the Hawks. Not only was he a presence between the pipes, but after making a save in the third quarter, Prior trotted downfield and released a shot that traveled approximately 45 yards over the Hartwick defense and into an unoccupied net at the opposite end of the field for his first career goal.
Through the first seven games of the season, Prior boasts the nation's third-highest saves per game average and leads the Empire 8 with 17.57 saves per game. The fourth-year backstop also ranks third in the conference with a .572 save percentage.
The Elmira men will continue play inside the E8 with a road trip to Alfred, New York, to battle the Saxons of Alfred University on Saturday, April 15. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
