Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Elmira College senior
Lindsay Wargo '17 has been recognized by the Empire 8 Conference as the Women's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week, following Saturday's 14-4 win over Alfred University.
Wargo is receiving the honor for the third time in her collegiate career, having also earned the award twice as a junior in 2016.
The Madison, Connecticut, native picked up her third win and her first against a conference opponent on Saturday, as she limited the visiting Saxons just four goals, the fewest she's surrendered in a game this season and the fewest she's allowed in a game in which she's played both halves. Wargo finished with eight saves, three of which came on free-position shots, to go along with a pair of ground balls.
Through the first 10 games of her senior campaign, Wargo has made 87 saves and ranks second in the E8 with 8.70 saves per game. In her four-year Elmira career, the 5-foot-5-inch netminder has accumulated 339 stops, third-most in program history. She needs just 16 more saves to move into a two-way tie for second-place all-time with Mary Kate Gellerman '13 (355). By capturing her third win this season, Wargo climbed the leaderboard for career victories as well, and is now tied with Ann Phillips '07 for fifth place (10).
Wargo and the Elmira women will continue play inside the Empire 8 on Wednesday, April 19, when the Soaring Eagles visit Stevens Institute of Technology for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
