Empire 8 Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Following a complete-game victory over SUNY Canton on Saturday afternoon, Elmira College junior Conor Bawiec '18 received the Empire 8 Conference Pitcher of the Week Award for the second time this season.

In the first game of Saturday's conference doubleheader against the Kangaroos, Bawiec tossed his third complete game of the spring and picked up his third consecutive win, as the Soaring Eagles prevailed 2-1 over the Roos at historic Dunn Field in the series opener. He allowed just one unearned run on five hits – all singles – in 7.0 innings. The righty struck out seven, including all three batters he faced in the fourth, without issuing a walk.

The Purple and Gold have won all three games in which Bawiec has gone the distance this season. The Lebanon, Pennsylvania, product has fanned at least seven batters in all but one of his starts and ranks fourth in the league with 46 strikeouts. The 6-foot-4-inch utility player boasts a 4-1 record and a team-low 3.51 ERA in 41.0 innings of work so far during his junior campaign. Also a gifted batter, Bawiec is second on the team in batting average (.337), on-base percentage (.417), and runs (17). He's currently riding a 17-game on-base streak, the longest such streak by a Soaring Eagle this season.

Bawiec previously won the E8 Pitcher of the Week award following his first start of the year, a 2-1 triumph over Rutgers University-Camden on February 25th. In that outing, he hurled 9.0 innings with a program single-game record 10 strikeouts.

The Elmira men will finish their Empire 8 series with the No. 18-ranked Cardinals of St. John Fisher College on Wednesday, April 26, with a doubleheader at Dugan Yard in Rochester, New York. First pitch for the opening game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
