Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Elmira College's
Lindsay Wargo '17 claimed her second consecutive Empire 8 Conference Goalie of the Week honor, as announced by the league office this afternoon. The award is Wargo's fourth of her collegiate career, as the fourth-year goalie took home weekly honors twice during the 2016 season.
In three games last week, the Madison, Connecticut, native accumulated 29 saves, 11 ground balls, and two caused turnovers. She began the three-game stretch with five saves in an E8 bout with Stevens Institute of Technology on April 19. Three days later, Wargo tied her single-game career high by making 17 stops against Nazareth College in Rochester, New York. The outing was her sixth of the season with double-digit stops and vaulted the senior netminder into second place on Elmira's all-time saves leaderboard.
Wargo concluded her week by backstopping the Purple and Gold to a 9-7 win over SUNY Canton in a non-conference contest on Sunday afternoon at Campus Field. She registered seven more saves, bringing her season total to 116, tied for the seventh-most in single-season program history, while increasing her career total to 368. With 13 more rejections, she'll move into a two-way tie with Malorie Stockwell '07 (381) for first-place all-time.
The Soaring Eagles have two regular-season games remaining on the 2017 schedule, giving Wargo two more chances to surpass Stockwell's record. Her next game between the pipes will be on Wednesday, April 26, when Elmira hosts St. John Fisher College at Campus Field at 4:00 p.m.
