Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College Women’s Basketball hosts Houghton tonight in Speidel Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m. Below is everything needed to get ready for the action.
Last Time Out: The Soaring Eagles fell to host Utica College, 67-51, Saturday afternoon on the road.
Where We Sit: The EC Women’s Basketball team enters Tuesday’s contest 5-11 overall and 1-5 in Empire 8 play. The Soaring Eagles are looking to break their three game skid. Elmira ranks seventh in the conference standings half a game back of sixth place Nazareth (2-5 E8).
Who’s Hot: Jessica Zoltowski ’14 scored a game-high 22 points in the loss at Utica. She went 6-for-14 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free throw line, while adding seven rebounds. Zoltowski is averaging 16.5 points per game, good for second in the Empire 8.
The junior is closing in on the 1,000 point career scoring milestone. She currently has 923 points. Zoltowski needs just 77 more points to reach the mark and with the team playing its next five contests at home the feat could likely take place in Speidel Gymnasium. If she keeps on her current scoring pace she would reach the mark on February 5th against Alfred.
Scouting Houghton: Houghton enters Tuesday’s contest 8-7 overall after falling to Stevens, 58-38, Saturday afternoon in Hoboken. The Highlanders are led by conference scoring leader, Kristen Moose’s 17.9 points per game.
Looking Ahead: The Soaring Eagles will host two conference contests this weekend in Speidel Gymnasium. EC takes on Hartwick Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Stevens Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
