Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team was eliminated from Empire 8 Conference Tournament contention with a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Hartwick College Hawks on Saturday.

With the loss, the Soaring Eagles sit at 2-5 inside the E8, and can finish no higher than sixth in the league standings, but no worse than seventh. On the other hand, Hartwick is tied with Houghton College for the fourth and final seed with identical 3-2-2 league records and one conference game remaining on their respective schedules.

In her first start since September 19th at St. Lawrence University, goalkeeper Amanda Banner '17 put together a strong first-half performance to limit the Hawks to one goal despite being peppered with 20 shot attempts. Banner made eight of her nine saves in the first 45 minutes.

Not satisfied with the one-goal lead, the Hawks scored three times in the second half to put any thoughts of an EC comeback to rest. Allie Ricci scored her second goal of the game in the 54th minute to make it 2-0. Kiley Richardson and Hanna Konash each scored their second goals of the season to add to the lead for Hartwick.

Turning Point
Elmira defense, along with netminder Banner, had done a spectacular job keeping Hartwick's offense at bay for most of the first half. The Soaring Eagles faced a mirage of Hartwick attempts, as the Hawks launched the game's first 14 shots. Six of those shots would find their way on frame, with Banner making five saves during that stretch. However, Hartwick would break through on their 14th attempt of the day, which proved to be the game-winner.
