Hoboken, NJ -- The Elmira College field hockey team concluded the 2015 season on Saturday evening, falling to the Stevens Institute of Technology 5-1 at the De Baun Athletic Complex. The Ducks used a four-goal second half to pull away in what was a close game through the opening 43 minutes of play.
Sarah McCaffrey '18 scored the lone goal for Elmira, as the Purple and Gold executed an excellent set-play off of a penalty corner. The second-year defender inserted the ball to
Kristy Haskell '19 at the center of the arc. She whipped it back to McCaffrey at the left side of the cage, who one-timed it into the cage for her first goal of the season.
The Ducks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of play when Victoria Alvarez tallied her first of two goals on the day when she slotted home a rebound off of Nolie Prouty shot.
The margin would remain just one-goal until the middle portion of the second half when Stevens hit Elmira with a pair of two-goal flurries to widen the lead. Alvarez tallied her second goal of the day on a deflection of a Dailyn Brook shot in the 44
th minute. Just 3:58 later, Taylor Welch added her own deflection goal, getting a tip of a Prouty shot.
The Ducks' second scoring flurry came 10 minutes later. Dailyn Brook scored in the 58
th minute with a one-timer off of a feed from Taylor Welch. Welch then added her own goal on a one-timer just 56 seconds later.
Turning PointElmira hung tough with Stevens through the majority of the contest, but the Ducks would break through with Victoria Alvarez's second goal of the game in the 44
th minute. That goal opened up the game, as the Soaring Eagles pressed to score to get back into the contest. The Ducks would capitalize on the extra space to make plays, adding a third goal just 3:58 after the Alvarez tally to put the game out of reach.

News and Notes- Elmira has now lost nine straight in the series against Stevens.
- It was a solid debut season for first-year head coach Lauren Silva. Elmira's five victories equaled the most since also posting five wins during the 2012 season.
- Alli Gilbert '16 concludes her Elmira career ranked third all-time in career goals (28), assists (12), and points (68).
- McCaffrey's 62nd minute goal was her first of the year.
