Canton, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team ended its six-game stretch of non-conference games to open the 2015 season with a road loss to St. Lawrence University, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Sandy MacAllaster Field.
The loss marks the most goals allowed by the Soaring Eagles in a little over six years; Ithaca College scored 10 on EC on September 16, 2009.
The Saints remained undefeated by maintaining control of possession throughout the 90-minute affair, outshooting the Soaring Eagles 32-to-11. St. Lawrence also recorded 11 corner kicks – 10 in the first half – while EC was held without.
Although EC was shutout, its 11 shots and seven shots on goal were the second-most recorded by the Purple and Gold in a game this season and the .636 shot-on-goal percentage was a new season high.
Turning PointSt. Lawrence started its attack early, earning its first corner a minute-and-a-half into the contest and firing a shot off the crossbar in the third minute. In the seven minute, Kaleigh White found the back of the net for her first of three goals on the day. In the ninth minute,
Jordyn Rousselle '18 put a shot on goal in an attempt to tie the game, but following the save by St. Lawrence goalkeeper Kelsey West, the Saints marched down the field and White scored another to jump ahead by two.
Inside the Box- EC's 11 shots and seven shots on goal were the second-most in a game in both categories in 2015.
- Allie Olsen '16 led the team with three shots.
- Olsen and Courtney Burgazli '16 each put two shots on goal to lead EC's offense.
- Amanda Banner '17 made eight saves in nearly 61 minutes of action; Gabe Carmona '18 stopped three shots.
- White led St. Lawrence with three goals; Emily DePoy had a team-high four assists.
News and Notes- Olsen's three shots and two shots on goal marked a season high.
- Burgazli tied her season best with two shots on goal.
- Rousselle played all 90 minutes for only the second time this season.
- Banner made her fourth consecutive start in goal for EC and is averaging nearly eight saves per game in those starts.
- St. Lawrence has scored an average of 5.5 goals per game at home in 2015.
