BUFFALO, N.Y. --
Elmira College men's soccer looked to get back to its winning ways during this afternoon's non-league matchup with Medaille College. The Soaring Eagle defense was superb for the majority of today's contest, but the Mavericks would break through for the game-winning score in the 74th minute to claim a 1-0 victory over the Elmira men.

Elmira's back line was tested right from the get-go, as the Mavericks launched all six of their first-half shots in the opening 21 minutes. The EC back line neutralized the attack with three blocked shots, while forcing three others to miss their target. Elmira's defense held Medaille without a shot attempt for the final 24 minutes of the half.

The Elmira offense on the other hand was able to produce three first-half shots. Brendan Wise '18 logged the only shot on goal, one that came in the 16th minute, but Medaille's Brian Arcara made the first of his three saves of the day to keep EC off of the scoreboard.

After a scoreless 45 minutes, Elmira came out of the halftime break with a concentrated effort on upping its shot total. The Soaring Eagles outshot Medaille 3-to-1 in the opening 18 minutes of the second half, but none of the three attempts made their way on goal.

With the momentum shifting in Elmira's favor, the Mavericks quickly turned things around, peppering EC starting netminder Jordan Hodlofski '17 with seven shots in a nine-minute span. Hodlofski did a good job during that time, making two of his four saves of the contest. However, Medaille's seventh attempt would finally break the stalemate, as Mitchell Ali snapped in a header on a long pass from Levi Bojang, giving the Mavericks a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute.

Elmira recorded two shots in the closing 16 minutes of regulation, placing both attempts on goal, but Medaille's Arcara made stops on both attempts to seal the team's 1-0 win.

Turning Point
Elmira's back line, along with starting goalkeeper Hodlofski, had done a good job neutralizing Medaille's attack. Hodlofski had to make just one save in the first 65 minutes, as EC's back line forced a handful of misses with contested looks and blocked shots. However, in a nine-minute span, Medaille produced seven of its 14 second-half shots. Of those seven attempts, three made their way on frame, with the third one finding the back of the net for the game-winning score.
