Rochester, NY -- The visiting Elmira College men's basketball team was suffered a 77-46 road loss at the hands of Nazareth College at the Kidera Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
Whereas the Soaring Eagles jumped out to an early eight-point lead in yesterday's near upset over regionally-ranked St. John Fisher College, it was the Golden Flyers who started with the hot hand on Saturday, scoring 12 of the game's first 14 points. Buckets from
John Mullane '16 and
Justin Porrett '19, followed by a three-pointer from
Gino Leonardi '16 cut the deficit to five points at 14-9 at the 11:14 mark of the first half. Naz, however, answered with a 10-0 run to take an insurmountable lead.
Turning PointAfter a solid shooting performance kept the Soaring Eagles in Friday's contest down the road at St. John Fisher, the Elmira offense struggled mightily on Saturday. EC shot 29.5-percent from the floor, including a 17.4 three-point field-goal percentage (4-for-23). That latter was a stark contrast from Friday's 13-for-28 effort from beyond the arc.
Inside the Box- Elmira registered at 29.5 field-goal percentage, while Nazareth shot 62.8-percent (27-for-43) from the floor.
- Naz out-rebounded EC 35-to-28, although Elmira had a 13-to-5 advantage on the offensive glass.
- The Soaring Eagles finished with an outstanding 85.7 free-throw percentage, but only attempted seven foul shots (6-for-7).
- Leonardi led the Purple and Gold with 14 points and two assists.
- Porrett hauled in a team-high five rebounds.
- Five Golden Flyers scored double-digit points, while Mitch Ford and Maurice Mills each recorded a double-double.
- Mills also blocked a game-high six shots for Naz.
News and Notes- With the win, Nazareth earned a sweep of the two-game series against Elmira.
- A total of 16 players saw action for Elmira, while 11 different players scored at least one point.
- Leonardi's double-digit performance was his 18th such game of the season.
- Justin Henderson '16 needs three more three-pointers to move into a two-way tie for 10th place in career treys.
- Hayden Harkins '18 made two three-pointers, giving him 71 on the season and placing him in a three-way tie for sixth-most in a season.
