Hoboken, NJ -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team was handed a decisive 22-3 defeat by Stevens Institute of Technology in Saturday's Empire 8 Conference bout at the De Baun Athletic Complex.

The Ducks scored early and often, as they established a 9-0 lead in the first 8:57 of the opening quarter.

The Soaring Eagles responded late in the quarter with three unanswered goals to come within six. Anthony LaRusso '17 sparked the run by firing a shot past Stevens netminder Austin Boyd at the 4:40 mark of the opening quarter.  Nevin Olney '18 then tallied an unassisted goal with one-and-a-half minutes left in the period, while the Ducks were hit with a delayed cross-checking penalty on the play. Due to the infraction, EC was awarded possession, and 16 seconds later, Skyler Pradelski '16 trimmed the deficit to 9-3.

Despite another delayed penalty for slashing on Pradelski's score, the Ducks won the ensuing draw and quickly reestablished control of the momentum with a man-down goal 14 seconds later. Elmira was held scoreless for the remainder of the contest while Stevens tacked on 12 more goals throughout the next three quarters.

Turning Point
As the cliché goes, the best defense is a good offense. Elmira, however, was unable to get the ball into the sticks of its scorers and keep it away from the potent Stevens offense, starting inside the faceoff circle. Stevens controlled the game from start to finish thanks in large part to a near-perfect performance at the faceoff X, winning 26-of-27 attempts. Elmira's only victory came on a procedure violation on the second draw of the first quarter. As a result, EC managed to fire only 10 shots on goal and was blanked in the final 46:15.

Inside the Box
  • Elmira scored three times in the first quarter, but was shutout in the final three periods.
  • Stevens outshot EC 47-to-18 overall.
  • Thanks in large part to a strong performance on faceoffs, the Ducks finished with a 44-to-14 advantage in ground balls.
  • Both teams scored one power-play goal on the afternoon.
  • LaRusso, Olney and Pradelski each scored once for Elmira.
  • Wyatt Katsos '17 and Joe Greene '17 earned one assist apiece.
  • The Ducks received at least one goal from 15 different players, led by Max Bailey's hat trick.
  • Brett Incollingo paced Stevens with eight faceoff wins and seven ground balls.
