ITHACA, N.Y. -- Elmira College women's lacrosse fell in its Empire 8 Conference opener to 10th-ranked Ithaca College on an extremely foggy afternoon at Higgins Stadium by an 18-0 final score. Lopsided totals in draw controls (18-2) and shots (29-5) paved the way for a double-digit victory for the Bombers.
Ithaca held Elmira without a shot attempt in the opening 30 minutes to set the tone early en route to a 16-0 halftime lead, one that would eventually turn into an 18-0 win.
EC's
Kyra McDonald '18 and
Kelcey Crawford '18 finished with the team lead in ground balls with four apiece. Crawford also caused three turnovers and collected one of Elmira's two draw controls. Senior netminder
Lindsay Wargo '17 registered three saves in 60 minutes of action.
Turning Point
Ithaca won the first three draw controls of the game, each of which turned into goals for Bombers in the opening 1:12 to give them a 3-0 lead. The offensive power of the nationally-ranked Bombers proved to be too much, as they went on to score on 55.2-percent of their attempts in the first half to put a stranglehold on today's contest.
