ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team was defeated 20-2 by the visiting Cardinals of St. John Fisher College on Wednesday afternoon in the 2017 regular-season home finale at Campus Field.

The Cardinals took a commanding lead in the first half, as they netted the game's first nine goals, five of which came in a span of less than two minutes beginning at the 25:09 mark. After losing the game's initial draw attempt, St. John Fisher collected the next four draws, which allowed them to reel off goals on five consecutive possessions.

The Purple and Gold snapped a scoreless drought that lasted nearly 24 minutes on a Hayley Baker '19 tally, which cut the Cardinal lead to 9-1. The sophomore attacker from Braintree, Massachusetts, was also responsible for Elmira's second goal, recorded at the 17:44 mark in the second half.

Between the pipes, goalie Lindsay Wargo '17 registered the seventh game of her senior campaign with double-digit saves. She made seven of her 11 stops in the second half, while also securing a team-high-tying three ground balls. Following Wednesday's contest, the fourth-year netminder has accumulated 127 stops on the season, sixth-most on the single-season program leaderboard. With one game remaining in her collegiate career, Wargo stands just three saves shy of setting Elmira's all-time record, which is currently held Malorie Stockwell '07 (381).

Turning Point
Elmira and St. John Fisher used the opening minutes of the game to size up the opposition, but a yellow card assessed to Baker for a dangerous follow-through just 4:19 into the contest appeared to be break the Cardinals needed to open the floodgates. Fisher tallied its first goal of the afternoon 32 seconds later with the extra attacker, which sparked a spurt of five goals in a span of 1:46 that gave the Cards a lead they never relinquished.
