WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. --
The Elmira College softball team was swept by Lycoming College in the Soaring Eagles' 2017 season finale. The Warriors took the first game by a 9-2 final score, before taking the nightcap, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

In the opening game, EC got on the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the first inning. Emily Clark '19 opened the scoring with a two-out bomb over the left field wall that also brought home Maddy Johnson '19.

Unfortunately for Elmira, this momentum did not last long, as the Warriors scored four runs in the bottom of the frame to surge ahead, 4-2. Kayla Kline highlighted Lycoming's inning with her first dinger of the game, a two-run homer to straight center field off of the Soaring Eagles' starter Emily Carlin '17. The Warriors extended their lead to 5-2 in the second with a RBI single from Ashley Schoenstadt.

Lycoming continued to add to its advantage with a three-run fourth inning. Kline highlighted the inning with her second homer of the game, a strike to center field. Following two RBI singles to close out the inning, the Warriors owned an 8-2 lead.

EC's best chance in the tilt came in the top of the sixth inning, as walks by Johnson, Carlin and Clark loaded the bases for Sarah Garner '20. Despite this opportunity, Elmira ended the inning without any runs, as Garner hit a pop fly to second base.

In the nightcap, the Warriors got out to an early 2-0 lead in the home half of the first inning. Lycoming was the beneficiary of two RBI singles in the frame. The home team added to the advantage with another RBI single in the second, giving it a 3-0 lead.

After the second inning, Elmira's starter Katie McDougal '18 settled in and held Lycoming scoreless for the next three frames. McDougal allowed just one hit in the three innings.

Unfortunately for the Soaring Eagles, they were also held scoreless in those three frames. EC's best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the sixth inning, as they loaded the bases with two outs. Rachel Katzenberger '19 stepped to the plate and grounded into a fielder's choice the shortstop that ended the frame.

The Warriors widened their lead in the bottom of the sixth with two RBI singles, which gave them a 5-0 advantage. This lead held up for the rest of the game, as the Soaring Eagles fell in order in the top of the seventh inning to seal the 5-0 non-conference victory for the home team.
