WASHINGTON, Pa. --The Elmira College women's field hockey team fought valiantly against Washington and Jefferson College on Saturday afternoon, but the Soaring Eagles could not keep pace with the Empire 8 Conference leaders, falling in their final matchup of the 2018 season.
Junior goalkeeper
Tina O'Donnell '20 shined once again for the Purple and Gold, amassing 17 saves in the effort. The Presidents controlled the majority of the game flow, holding EC without a shot for 70 minutes. Washington and Jefferson generated 34 shots and earned 15 penalty corners as the Presidents consistently pressured the Purple and Gold's back line.
Washington and Jefferson opened the scoring in the 12th minute and added four more tallies before the halftime break to take a commanding 5-0 lead. EC fared better defensively in the second half, limiting the Presidents to a pair of goals.
After the Presidents caged a goal in the 44th minute, O'Donnell made a string of four saves over a two-minute time span to keep Washington and Jefferson off of the board. EC held its ground the rest of the way, but the Presidents were able to add a final goal in with nine minutes to play to seal the victory over the Purple and Gold.
