ONEONTA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of hard-fought matches to close the season on Saturday afternoon, falling to SUNY Oneonta and St. Lawrence at the Dig Pink Invitational.
Match 1
In the first match of the day, the Soaring Eagles took on the host Red Dragons. EC struggled for consistent offense against Oneonta as the hosts earned a straight-set victory.
Tiara John '19 and
Savannah Terry '21 led Elmira's offense with five kills apiece, while
Taylor Kaznowski '19 tallied 15 assists.
The Purple and Gold hung tough with the Red Dragons in the opening set, taking a 12-8 lead after back-to-back aces from Terry. As EC tried to maintain its lead, Oneonta eventually seized the momentum, winning the set 25-21 with a 6-0 run. The second set was all Oneonta, as the Red Dragons jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, downing the Purple and Gold, 25-8. The final set was a back-and-forth affair, but Oneonta used a 3-0 run to take a 16-10 lead and EC couldn't recover, dropping the final set, 25-20.
Match 2
In their final match of the season, the Purple and Gold went the distance against the Saints for the second time in 2018. The Soaring Eagles tallied a season-high 109 digs against the Saints, highlighted by a match-high-tying 22 digs from John. The Kayenta, Arizona native finished with a double-double, tallying a team-leading 18 kills.
Natalie Schieder '19 posted a double-double to help guide EC's attack, finishing the match with 17 kills and 20 digs. Kaznowski out-dueled Oneonta's Ally Good, finishing with 49 assists compared to 32 from Good. EC was able to take a two-sets-to-none advantage, but couldn't fend off a feisty St. Lawrence squad, as the Saints came roaring back to take the final three sets and steal the victory.

- EC's 91 digs are the most for the team since the Purple and Gold tallied 93 digs against Pitt-Bradford earlier this season.
- Schieder's double-double was her 20th of the season.
