BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A hat trick from
Kyra McDonald '18 and three points from
Hayley Baker '19 paced the Elmira College women's lacrosse team on Monday evening, but that would be the only goal scoring the Soaring Eagles would do in a 22-5 road loss to Buffalo State.
The Bengals struck first in the opening half, as just 16 seconds were needed before Christina Krowel recorded the first of her game-high six goals to give the hosts the lead. Buffalo State scored the first six goals of the contest in a span of 13:04 to take a lead it would never relinquish.
The Soaring Eagles settled in midway through the half and looked poised to start a comeback attempt. EC scored three of the next four goals to whittle the deficit down to 7-3. McDonald deposited the first goal of the night for the Purple and Gold at the 15:37 mark, and Baker followed with another just 2:23 later. After Buffalo State's Morgan Hogue widened the gap back to five goals, 7-2, McDonald responded with her second tally a mere 45 seconds later to bring Elmira back within four.
The spark fizzled from there, however, as the Bengals potted six more goals before halftime to take a commanding 13-3 lead. Baker and McDonald each found the back of the net once in the early portion of the second half, but Buffalo State rattled off eight more while holding the Soaring Eagles scoreless in the final 21-and-a-half minutes of regulation.
Rachael Goetz '20 and
Danielle Goddard '20 each secured five draw controls to lead Elmira, while Goddard also added a team-high four ground balls and one caused turnover. Outside of McDonald (3g) and Baker (2g-1a), Goetz was the only other Soaring Eagle to register a point, as she assisted on the team's second goal.
