Men’s Tennis Falls on Senior Day to St. John Fisher in 2018 Finale

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- On a day that the Elmira College men's tennis team honored its graduating members of the Class of 2018, the Soaring Eagles dropped a 9-0 decision at the Murray Athletic Center to the Cardinals of St. John Fisher College. Today's contest marked the end of the 2018 campaign for the Purple and Gold.
 
St. John Fisher won all three doubles matches this afternoon to take a 3-0 lead into the singles portion of the match. The closest contest of the three took place at the No. 2 spot, where Yaniv Kogan '18 and Jordan Curtis '19 fell short by a single break of serve, 8-6.
 
Singles action ended in similar fashion as the doubles, as the Cards earned straight-set wins at all six positions. Kogan was once again involved in the tightest match of the day, as he battled St. John Fisher's John Miller in two highly-competitive sets. The senior netter jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening set, but Miller rallied to win six straight games to claim the set. In the second set, both players traded holds and breaks of serve until Miller broke Yaniv and consolidated the break with a hold to secure a 7-5, 7-5 win.
