KEUKA PARK, N.Y. -- A halftime deficit proved too much for the Elmira College women's basketball team to overcome on Monday evening, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a non-conference tilt on the road to the Wolves of Keuka College by a final score of,73-56.
Keuka used a well-rounded and consistent attack to down the Purple and Gold, as the Wolves had a quartet of players finish in double figures, led by Lauren Anten, who posted 14 points. While the Soaring Eagles had four players hit double digits, Keuka shot an efficient 42.2-percent (27-of-64) from the floor to outpace EC. Turnovers plagued the Soaring Eagles once again, as Keuka turned Elmira's miscues into 21 points.
Lindsey Heaton '19 paced all scorers with 16 points.
Rachel Vespucci '19 followed Heaton, finishing one rebound shy of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Alyssa Waters '22 and
Lauren Franklin '20 rounded out EC's double-digit-scorers with 10 points apiece.
The two sides traded blows through the opening quarter as the two non-conference opponents found their footing. Heaton dropped in a layup to knot the score at 11-11 with a little over four minutes left in the first quarter. However, Keuka added five points in the last minute of the period to take a 15-12 lead. The Wolves started to pull away in the second quarter, as their defense held Elmira to nine points as Keuka headed into the halftime break with an eight point edge.
Both offenses came alive in the third quarter, as EC matched Keuka with 22 points during the 10-minute period of play. The Wolves opened the second half with a 6-0 run, but
Taylor Albrecht '22 knocked down a free throw before to halt the run before adding a make in the paint a mere 20 seconds later. EC was able to pull back within nine on two occasions during the quarter thanks to
Bridget Yaw '20 and Waters, but that was as close as the Soaring Eagles would get. Keuka maintained its lead the rest of the way as the early deficit haunted the Purple and Gold late in the contest.
