BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- Despite a valiant attempt at a fourth-quarter rally, the Elmira College field hockey team was held off of the scoreboard in a 1-0 non-conference loss to the College at Brockport on Wednesday night.
The Soaring Eagles (4-4) were limited to eight shots, but trailing in the final quarter, the Purple and Gold produced six of those shots in hopes of forcing overtime. Between the 50th and 53rd minutes, EC earned a series of penalty corners, the last of which resulted in a pair of shots on goal by
Frankie Puglisi '23 and
Janie Kempf '21. However, the Golden Eagles (7-3) received a clutch performance from goalkeeper Cara Fox, who denied Elmira on both tries.
In the final 30 seconds of regulation, the Soaring Eagles drove the ball back into the arc and frantically fired three more shots towards the cage. Fox was there once again to preserve her shutout, while the last attempt off the stick of
Kylie Rosen '23 went wide as time expired.
Not to be outdone on the opposite end of the field was
Tina O'Donnell '20. Elmira's fourth-year goalie reached double-digit saves for the third time this season by making 14 stops against the Golden Eagles. She held an offense that entered Thursday averaging over three-and-a-half goals per game to a single tally.
