Fisher Pulls Away in Second Half to Beat Field Hockey

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- Kylie Rosen '23 scored her fourth goal of the season to tie Wednesday's Empire 8 Conference contest against St. John Fisher College at 1-all in the third quarter, but the Cardinals closed the game with four of the last five goals to secure a 5-2 victory at the Murray Athletic Center.

Although the conference-leading Cardinals (12-4, 5-0 E8) maintained possession for the majority of the opening half, the Soaring Eagles (6-8, 0-5 E8) found a spark after the halftime intermission. They managed to drive the ball into the arc, earning a penalty corner in the 33rd minute. The ball eventually found Janie Kempf '21 and she quickly passed it to Rosen along the left post to even the score at 1-1.

Despite the brief momentum shift in Elmira's favor, St. John Fisher needed only two-and-a-half minutes to march down the other end of the field and regain the lead on a goal in the 36th minute by Reghan Amoroso. It was the first of four consecutive scores for the Cardinals, a run that spanned until the 59th minute of the game.

Down by four, the Soaring Eagles earned one final penalty corner with 29 seconds remaining in regulation. On the play, Emily Selbert '20 rocketed a shot towards the post, where first-year forward Sarah Griffith '23 was perfectly positioned for a tip-in goal, the third tally of her debut season.
