PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- For the second consecutive season, the No. 1/2-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team has claimed the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) regular season title, after earning a 6-1 victory over Utica College during senior day on Saturday afternoon.

Although Elmira outshot Utica by just nine shots, 34-25, the Soaring Eagles' special teams were dominant throughout the contest. EC's penalty-kill unit held the Pioneers scoreless with the extra-skater on five chances, while the Elmira power play connected on 3-of-7 opportunities.

A total of 10 Elmira skaters finished with points this afternoon, including five multi-point producers. Additionally, all six members of the graduating Class of 2019 logged at least one point.

Leading the charge was senior forward Katie Granato '19, who finished with three points on one goal and one assist. Eliza Beaudin '22 turned in a two-point performance, both of which were registered on goals, including a power-play tally and the game-winner.

Maddy Jerolman '19 added a pair of assists, with the first helper going down as her 100th career point. She became the 15th player in Elmira's storied history to reach the 100-point plateau, joining fellow classmates Granato and Maddie Evangelous '19, who accomplished the feat earlier this season.

Rounding out the multi-point producers were Meg Lahey '19 and Shannon Strawinski '19, both of whom finished with one goal and one assist apiece. Lahey's goal came on the power play, while Strawinski's put the Purple and Gold on top by four goals.

Evangelous, Ariella Haas '22, Kristin Chivers '19, Emma Crocker '21 and Mary McCafferty '22 all finished with one point each. Evangelous's lone point came on a power-play goal, while Haas, Chivers, Crocker and McCafferty logged one assist apiece.

After dispatching the Pioneers, 5-2, the previous afternoon, the Soaring Eagles continued their surging play with a pair of first-period goals from Beaudin. The rookie forward punched in the game-opening goal on the power play at 14:51 on assists from Strawinski and Jerolman. For Jerolman, the assist went down as her 100th career point.

Just about four minutes later Beauding tallied her second of the period with a tap-in goal from just outside the crease at 18:53. Jerolman and Crocker were credited with assists on the tally.

EC's leading goal scorer, Granato, made it a 3-0 Elmira lead with an even-strength tally just 2:12 in the second stanza. A missed shot by Lahey caromed off of the end-boards to Granato, who wrapped around the defense and beat a screened Ryann Stripp for the goal.

Strawinski produced Elmira's fourth goal of the night at 6:31 in the third period on an assist from Granato.

Utica answered with its lone goal of the night at 9:30, but Elmira tacked on two additional power-play goals from Evangelous and Lahey at 12:45 and 14:29, respectively, to close out the Pioneers.

In His Own Words…
Head Coach Tim Crowely on today's win…
"I was really happy for the group to get four points this weekend and clinch the regular season title on our home ice. This group of seniors has been a huge success over the last four years. All of them are great players but the year's not over for them. We have a lot of hockey left ahead of us and I know they're looking forward to it."
