ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Elmira College softball team came up short in a pair of Empire 8 Conference games to league-leading St. John Fisher College. The Cardinals earned a pair of 8-0 wins over the Soaring Eagles on Thursday evening. With two hits this evening, Maddy Johnson '19 moved into sole possession of third place in EC history for career hits (119), surpassing former standout Sue Marine '00.

Game One
St. John Fisher marched away with an 8-0 win in the opening game, but all of the Cardinals' damage was done in the bottom of the first and fifth innings. Fisher put a three-spot on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning with all three runs scored while working with two outs. An infield single and a pair of doubles plated the trio of Cardinal runs.

From there, Elmira's starting pitcher Mckenzie Slaven '20 held the Cards scoreless over the next three innings, allowing just four hits during that span. However, St. John Fisher would go on to plate five additional runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on five hits to secure an 8-0 win in a five-inning shortened game.

Elmira's best scoring chance came in the top of the fourth inning when the Soaring Eagles loaded the bases with two outs. Sam Chadbourne '19 and Johnson both logged hits in the fourth, while Sarah Garner '20 reached safely on an error, but EC's next batter popped up to end the scoring threat.

Game Two
Elmira suffered a similar fate in the nightcap of today's doubleheader, as the Cardinals secured an 8-0 win in a six-inning shortened game. Fisher logged one run in both the first and third innings, before putting a pair of three-spots on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to clinch the win.

The Soaring Eagles were held to just one hit, a base-knock that came from the bat of Johnson. For the senior center fielder, it extended her hitting streak to a season-best six consecutive games.
