Adams' Hat Trick Leads No. 4 Women's Ice Hockey to 7-0 Win vs. Lebanon Valley

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- The No. 4 nationally-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team earned its sixth consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon, as the Soaring Eagles took down Lebanon Valley College in a one-sided 7-0 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) victory.

With the win, Elmira improves to 13-2-2 overall and sits in first place in the UCHC North Division with an 8-1-0 conference record. Lebanon Valley, on the other hand, falls to 3-13-1 and 3-7-1 in the conference's South Division.

The Soaring Eagles were in control from ticker-to-ticker, as they outshot the Dutchmen by a whopping 68-to-8 margin. Both teams drew a trio of penalties, with Elmira going 1-for-3 on the power play and LVC finishing 0-for-3 while surrendering a short-handed goal.

Eleven different players finished with a point for the Purple and Gold, including six multi-point scorers. Jess Adams '21 paced all scorers with a hat trick, the second of her junior year. Second-year forward Ariella Haas '22 also amassed three points with one goal and two assists. Four additional skaters produced a pair of points, led by a two-goal effort from junior Devyn Gilman '21. Fellow third-year forward Tristen Tolan '21 joined blueliners Amanda Zenstein '22 and Sydney Harris '21 with two assists apiece. Elmira also received a goal from Ronnie Callahan '21, her second of the season.

In goal, junior Elizabeth Hanson '21 and freshman Maggie Gilman '23 split time. Hanson got the start and logged 39:57 of playing time with six saves, all of which came in the second period. Gilman made her collegiate debut with 19:58 and two saves in the third period. Both netminders combined for EC's 10th shutout of the 2019-20 campaign.

Special teams played an early role in Sunday's contest. The first tally was netted short-handed at the 4:48 mark of the opening period. Zenstein began the scoring opportunity when she collided with a Dutchman skater in the neutral zone and poked the puck along the wall to Haas, who raced into the attacking zone ahead of three Lebanon Valley players for a one-on-one opportunity with goalie Jillian Moffat. After killing the early penalty, Elmira earned a power play of its own, and at the 7:53 mark, Adams deflected a long-range shot from Zenstein into the back of the net for the first of her game-high three markers.

EC added one more goal before the first intermission, before adding three more in the second period to put the game well out of Lebanon Valley's reach.
