Women’s Basketball Drops Non-Conference Bout to St. Lawrence

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- A well-rounded approach on offense and a season-low turnover rate highlighted Elmira College women's basketball's performance on Monday night, as the Soaring Eagles came up short in non-conference action to St. Lawrence University, 73-55. With the result, Elmira dropped to 2-9 on the season, while the Saints improved to 6-4.

Despite one of its better shooting performances of the season, Elmira was unable to ride that momentum to a victory tonight in large part due to St. Lawrence's effort on the boards. The Saints held a hefty 53-to-30 advantage in rebounds, and of those 53 boards, 20 came on the offensive glass which resulted in 26 second-chance points.

Elmira went 22-for-63 (34.9%) from the field, including a 7-for-23 (30.4%) mark from 3-point range. St. Lawrence, on the other hand, went 29-for-70 (41.4%) from the floor and 9-for-24 (37.5%) from distance. Additionally, Elmira was 4-for-5 (80.0%) from the free-throw line and St. Lawrence was 6-for-11 (54.5%).

Taylor Johnson '23, the reigning Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Week, paced the Elmira offense with an 11-point performance. Of her 11 buckets, nine came from the 3-point line on 3-of-7 shooting. She also pulled down three boards and dished out three assists.

Fellow starters Lauren Franklin '20, Alyssa Waters '22 and Emily Breheny '20 contributed six points apiece. Franklin and Breheny each logged five rebounds, while all three players chipped in with three assists each.

Also contributing from off of the bench was Alicia Johnson '22, who chipped in four points and two rebounds. Johnson rounded out Elmira's scoring, as all eight players who stepped ontp the hardwood tonight contributed points.

For St. Lawrence, a trio of players finished with double-digit points. Ava McCann paced the trio with 19 points, while Katie Frederick produced a monster double-double with 16 points and 23 boards. Dylan Watkiss chipped in 11 points in an effort off of the bench.
