Women’s Ice Hockey Records 5-0 Shutout Against Johnson & Wales on Friday Night

ATTLEBORO, MASS. – The fifth-ranked Elmira College Women's Hockey team used a three-goal second period along with a 23-save shutout from Alayna Breivogel '25 en route to a 5-0 victory against Johnson & Wales University on Friday night in New England Hockey Conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Katie Manning '25 netted her first career goal and opened the scoring for the Soaring Eagles as she found the back of the net at the 10:02 mark of the first period. Manning would be Johnson & Wales netminder Anna Maulson on her own to give the Purple & Gold a one-goal cushion.

Taking a 1-0 lead to the second period, Elmira would add to its advantage just over a minute into action as Mary McCafferty '22 beat Maulson. McCafferty's tally would come at the 1:36 mark as she took a feed from Jenny Heath '22 to give EC a 2-0 lead.

Brooke McArdle '22 made it 3-0 at the 8:28 mark of the second period as her shots found the back of the net. Heath and Claire Meeder '23 would be credited with the assists on McArdle's goal. Morgan Mordini '22 scored the first of her two goals on the night with less than two minutes to play in the frame to give Elmira a 4-0 advantage.

Mordini closed the scoring for the Soaring Eagles with a goal at the 10:45 mark of the third period to make it 5-0. Emma Crocker '21 and Eliza Beaudin '22 assisted on both of Mordini's goals to close the night.

Breivogel recorded her first win for the Purple & Gold as she notched 10 saves in the third period to go along with 23 in the contest. Heath, Beaudin, and Crocker each finished with a pair of assists for EC, while the Soaring Eagles went 1-for-3 on the power play.
