Women's Ice Hockey Ends Regular Season With 6-0 Win at Chatham

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- With a 6-0 victory over Chatham University on Saturday, the Elmira College women's ice hockey team completed a sweep of the Cougars and wrapped up the 2021 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) schedule undefeated.

Elmira (10-1-0, 10-0-0 UCHC) was officially crowned the UCHC regular-season champion following Friday's home shutout against the Cougars (6-5-0, 6-50 UCHC). Saturday's win improved EC's conference record to an unblemished 10-0-0, marking the second time in four seasons as members of the UCHC that the Soaring Eagles finished without a loss or tie in league play.

Less than 24 hours after tying the program record for assists in a game, Jess Adams '21 guided the Purple and Gold to their fourth consecutive win with a hat trick. The senior from Holliston, Massachusetts, deposited the first goal of the contest with a shot that deflected off the pads of Chatham's goalie, Lilly Rogers, fluttered over her head and landed just across the goal line.

The Soaring Eagles needed only 20 seconds to net their second goal, when Emma Crocker '21 found Eliza Beaudin '22 alone by the left post with a nifty backhanded pass.

Although EC went 0-for-2 on the power play, two of the three goals scored in the second period came shorthanded. Beaudin extended Elmira's lead to 4-0 with the first shorthanded tally midway through the second, and Adams completed her hat trick with the other at the 17:10 mark.

Claire Meeder '23 potted the only goal for the Soaring Eagles in the third period. The second-year skater from Woodbury, Minnesota, tickled the twine with a hard slap shot from high in the slot that beat Rogers over her stick-side shoulder.

Elizabeth Hanson '21 and Maggie Gilman '23 each made 10 saves in goal for the Soaring Eagles. Hanson earned the win, her ninth of the season, after playing the first 30:32. Eight of Gilman's saves were made in the third period, as she preserved the combined shutout.
