POTSDAM, N.Y. -- It was a tough afternoon for the Elmira College women's lacrosse team on Saturday in North Country, where the SUNY Potsdam Bears defeated the Soaring Eagles, 10-2, in Potsdam, New York.
Saturday's game was the lowest-scoring Elmira (3-2) has played this season. The Soaring Eagles and Bears (3-5) combined for only 12 goals, five fewer than EC and Russell Sage College in their matchup on March 20.
Not only did Potsdam control possession off the draw, the Bears' defense suffocated EC's scorers. The Purple and Gold only recorded three shots on goal in the contest, and both goals scored by first-year attacker
Emily Ferguson '24 were earned on free-position shots. Originally from Waterloo, New York, Ferguson converted both of her free position opportunities into goals, extending her streak of multi-goal performances to five in a row.
Second-year attacker
Kendra Heath '23 fired three total shots against the Bears, but only one tested Potsdam goalkeeper Netta Terrance. Terrance had a little help from the post, too, as Ferguson rang a shot off the pipe on the possession before netting her first goal.
The goalkeeping tandem of
Alex Cox '23 and
Krystyna Lilland '21 split duties for the Soaring Eagles. Cox made a game-high seven saves and allowed six goals in the opening half. Lilland allowed four goals with five saves in the second half.
Cox also caused one turnover, intercepting a pass from Potsdam's Hannah Stevenson. That turnover led to Elmira's first goal on the opposite end of the field with 9:01 remaining in the first half.
