Crary Nets Career-High Six Goals in Setback to Russell Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Elmira College men's lacrosse (1-5) came up short to Russell Sage College (1-2) on Saturday afternoon, falling on the road to the Gators, 21-11. As it currently stands, today's contest was the final one of the 2021 season for the Soaring Eagles.  
 
Second-year standout Sam Crary '23 led the Elmira attack with a six-goal performance. His six tallies led the Soaring Eagles, were a career best, and tied for the game high with Sage's Anthony Marrone.
 
Aiding the Elmira attack was rookie Matt Daley '24, who netted a trio of goals to bring his season total to a team-high 19.
 
Brennan Bitely '24 was EC's final multi-point scorer. The Rochester, New York, native assisted on a pair of goals.
 
Additional point-getters included Hayden Sachel '24, Eben Thrasher '23, and Sam Shaw '22. Sachel and Thrasher each scored a goal, while Shaw picked up an assist. Thrasher's goal was scored on a man-up opportunity, EC's lone extra-man goal of the contest.
 
Jacob Mattice '21 made his sixth start in net for the Elmira men. He finished with 12 saves, bringing his save total this year to 90.
 
Sage opened today's contest with eight unanswered goals, a run that spanned into the second quarter. From that point on, Elmira matched Sage's goal output up until halftime as the Gators entered the break with an 11-3 lead. All three of EC's second-quarter goals came from Crary.
 
The second half proved to be much of the same, as Sage doubled EC's offensive output in the third quarter, 6-3, before the Soaring Eagles outscored the Gators in the fourth, 5-4. Daley scored all three of his goals in the third quarter, while Crary potted another three in the fourth.
