Joe Morrone '22 had the most productive outing by a Soaring Eagle in the early game. The slugging first baseman hit 2-for-3 with a triple, one run, and one RBI.
Myles Littlejohn '24 and
Shane Hake '21 each finished 1-for-2 with one RBI. EC's only other hit came from
Devin Truman '23, who produced his first career base knock as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning.
Elmira took the game's first lead, thanks to an RBI single from Morrone in the top of the first. Utica, however, plated the next seven runs and led 7-1 until Hake lifted a sac fly into left that drove in Plaisted in the fourth.
The only other run produced by the Soaring Eagles came in the sixth. Morrone led off in the inning with a three-bagger over the head of the center fielder. Littlejohn picked up the RBI with a sac fly two batters later.
Utica's offense never relented, however, and the Pioneers tacked on seven more runs in the last two innings.
Utica 15, Elmira 1
The Pioneers picked up right where they left off as their batters continued to punish Elmira's pitching staff. Three runs in the first and a four-spot in the second allowed Utica to jump ahead and quickly put the game out of EC's reach.
Although the Soaring Eagles logged only three hits, two of them went for extra bases.
Colin McLaughlin '22, who hit third in the lineup, was 2-for-2 with a double, one walk, and one RBI.
Mason Ryan '22 also doubled and ended the nightcap 1-for-3 with Elmira's only run scored.
