SALEM, MASS. – The third-ranked Elmira College Women's Ice Hockey program recorded its third consecutive win on Saturday as the Soaring Eagles skated to a 6-1 decision against Salem State from Rockett Arena.
Mary McCafferty '22 and
Claire Meeder '23 each tallied a pair of goals in the win for Elmira.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The opening period would favor the Purple & Gold in terms of shots as EC held an 11-3 advantage in shots on goal. Neither side would find the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes of action.
Alayna Breivogel '25 stopped all three of the shots that would come her way in net for Elmira.
Emma Crocker '21 opened the scoring for the Soaring Eagles at the 6:52 mark of the second period as she took a pass from
Madi Morton '24 to beat the goalkeeper and make it 1-0. For the third consecutive game, Meeder would light the lamp for the Purple & Gold with a tally at the 9:24 mark to make it 2-0. McCafferty notched her first goal of the contest at the 10:52 mark to increase the EC advantage to 3-0, while Meeder scored short-handed to push the lead to 4-0 later in the period.
The Soaring Eagles opened the third period with a power-play advantage and would find the back of the net just 28 seconds into play as McCafferty notched her second of the night to make it 5-0. With two assists already to her credit,
Morgan Mordini '22 added to the EC lead at the 9:46 mark by beating the goalkeeper off assists from
Jenny Heath '22 and
Eliza Beaudin '22.
Salem State spoiled the shutout bid for Breivogel and the Soaring Eagles late in the third period as Brenna Greene slipped the puck past Breivogel at the 17:25 mark to make it 6-1.
Breivogel improved to 2-0 on the season for Elmira after recording an even 10 saves between the pipes. As a team, Elmira finished the contest with a 55-11 edge in shots and won 39 faceoffs.
McKenzie Schmidt won 14 of her 16 faceoffs for EC, while Meeder went 12-of-13 in the circle. Mordini, Heath, and Morton each finished the contest with two assists for the Purple & Gold.
